Jurong Bird Park in Jurong – Singapore is considered as the largest park of its kind in the world. A top tourist attraction in Singapore, it is home to some four thousand and six hundred different birds from three hundred and eighty various bird species.

Location

Jurong Bird Park in Jurong – Singapore is located at 2 Jurong Hill Singapore, within the Boon Lay Planning Area.

Getting There

To get to the bird park, take the MRT or Mass Rapid Transit to the MRT Station in Boon Lay. Once you get to the station, take a bus or what is called as SBS Transit Service at the Boon Lay Bus Interchange.

The bus will stop right outside Jurong Bird Park in Jurong – Singapore. Buses to take are either Bus 194 or Bus 251.

On the other hand, if you will be driving your own car, from the AYE or Ayer Rajah Expressway, go through Exit 17. From PIE or Pan Island Expressway, take Exit 36.

As you traverse the road, turn left at Jalan Bahar going to Jalan Boon Lay. From here, make a right turn at Ahmad Ibrahim. From this point, you can easily reach Jurong Bird Park in Jurong – Singapore.

What to See

With more than four thousand birds to view at your pleasure, you will have plenty to see while visiting the park.

The birds are housed in their own sanctuaries that are suitable to them hence, the environment which they live in are also part of the attraction.

You should make your first stop at the Free Flight Aviaries. Here, you can find the African Waterfall Aviary, Jungle Jewels Flight Aviary, and the Lory Loft.

 

You will perhaps find that the most interesting and awe-inspiring among these three is the African Waterfall Aviary, one of the largest walk-in aviaries in the world today.

This African-inspired rainforest is home to Black-Masked Lovebirds, a variety of Starlings and African Crowned Cranes basking in their habitat.

There is also the Southeast Asian Birds Aviary which is home to about two hundred and sixty Southeast Asian bird species.

If you are visiting with kids, there is the Splash N’ Slid Station where kids can run through geysers and jet sprays.

Brief History

Jurong Bird Park in Jurong – Singapore was the brainchild of Dr. Goh Kweng See, Singapore’s former Minister of Finance. He took inspiration from Rio de Janeiro’s zoological garden where he was awestruck by the free-flight bird sanctuary.

This was in the year 1968. Dr. Goh wanted something that people in Jurong can go visit when they want to unwind and he wanted it in the form of a nature-inspired surroundings.

The cost to build this dream project was 3.5 million Singapore dollars. The park opened on the 3rd of January in 1971.

Cost

Entry tickets cost S$18.00 for adults and S$12.00 children three years old up to twelve years old. For Panorail rides that will take you through the aviaries, cost is at S$5.00 for adults and S$3.00 for children three years old up to twelve years old.

Other Information

Jurong Bird Park in Jurong – Singapore is open everyday from 8:30 in the morning up to 6 in the evening. Tickets will be sold up to 5:30 only. Panorail rides are also from 8:30 in the morning up to 6 in the evening.
