The Santa Lucia Riverwalk in Monterrey – Mexico

Monterrey comes in third as the largest city in the country. It is the capital city of the State of Nuevo Leon.
The city is popular for the saddle – shaped mountain that serves as the city’s backdrop, landmarks and cultural attractions.
There are also a wide variety of activities that you can do here including going down the famous Santa Lucia Riverwalk.

 

Location

The Santa Lucia Riverwalk in Monterrey – Mexico extends from Plaza de 400 Años and goes all the way through the Macroplaza and finally culminates at Foundry Park.

Getting There

Flying in to Monterrey is via the General Mariano Escobedo International Airport. From the airport, you can take a taxi to get to the city center.
To get to the Santa Lucia Riverwalk in Monterrey – Mexico you can also take a taxi or the subway. While there are buses in the city, foreign travelers may find these a bit too crowded and uncomfortable.
There are likewise tourist trolleys that run on specific circuits around the city specifically between the areas of Macroplaza and Barrio Antiguo.

What to See and Do

The Santa Lucia Riverwalk in Monterrey – Mexico provides riverboat rides that take you from Macroplaza up to Foundry Park 2 and then Foundry Park.
Along the way, you can see various museums, sculptures, restaurants and coffee shops.
You can also walk along the banks of the riverway to give you more time to check out the attractions that line the walkway.
Dining by the riverway is recommended especially at night when you get romantic views of the riverway while sampling some of the best local fares.

Brief History

Building of the Santa Lucia Riverwalk in Monterrey – Mexico started in the year 1996 but due to budget constraints and other economic factors, continuation of the project was halted for about 9 years.
Finally in the year 2005, work on the riverwalk began once again and in 2007, the project was completed.
It was no less than the country’s president, Felipe Calderon; the state’s governor, Natividad Gonzalez Paras and the city mayor, Adalberto Madero who inaugurated the riverwalk.
Inauguration took place during the 197th year of the Mexican War Independence.
The riverwalk is about five and one – half miles in length and 1.20 meters in depth.

Cost

Riverboat rides down the Santa Lucia Riverwalk in Monterrey – Mexico cost about S 40 per adult and $ 20 per child.

Other Information

You can go on a riverboat ride between 10 in the morning and 10 in the evening. Riverboats are available daily during these times.
